Hello everyone!

I decided to get back into some translation practice and wanted to start with something "easy". Since a friend asked me to, I translated the niconico newsletter and stumbled over this sentence: ・『ニコニコ町会議ツアー2014』長野県からスタート!

In that context, how do you translate 町会議?

Also, even though english isn't my native language, I'm still looking for a good japanese to english online dictionary. Do you have any recommendations?

I think it would mean something like "'Niconico city conventions tour 2014'" Starting in Nagoya"

That sounds MUCH better than anything I came up with. Thanks a bunch!

Are these kanji commonly used for "convention"? I'd have expected them to use katakana instead :'D.

I actually learned 大会 (taikai) as meaning convention. Looking at it again I suppose 会議 could also be translated as a meeting in general, I guess it depends on the context. They all generally mean the same, I think. ^^

As for the dictionary, jisho(dot)org is a very useful tool for translators ^~^

This is one of those cases where you can probably just romanisize it as it's the actual name of the event. NicoNico have been doing the chokaigi events in different forms for a couple of years now. If you do still want to translate it, then 'town/city meeting' would probably work.

As for a dictionary, I like http://ejje.weblio.jp/ It's not perfect, but it's a site designed for Japanese learners of English (instead of English speaking learners of Japanese) so I find it be a little more comprehensive than the E to J ones.

Ah, okay, I didn't know that! Thank you very much!

Also, thanks for the dictionary. Bookmarked that as well ^^!

I thought it was "ニコニコ超会議" (different "chou" from what you have there)??

I double-checked, but naw, the newsletter reads "ニコニコ町会議" O_o.
